MIDDLETOWN — An accident that spilled from a highway onto the property of a local gas station resulted in damage to the station as well as the two vehicles involved.

According to the Middletown Police Department, the accident happened just before 12:30 p.m. on Sunday when a Jeep Wrangler and a Jeep Grand Cherokee collided. Both cars left the road and ended up at the J&R Sunoco Station at 560 Route 36.

As a result of the crash, the Wrangler hit a gas pump while the Cherokee hit a telephone pole. The department said the drivers, who were not identified were injured but did not provide details on the injuries.

The accident is being investigated by Cpl. Thomas Russo and the Middletown Township Police  Traffic Safety Unit. Anyone with information is asked to contact Russo at 732-615-2100 ext. 2144.
