Essex County authorities say the shootings occurred about a mile apart during a two-hour span on Friday afternoon, but it doesn't appear that the incidents are connected.

The first shooting occurred around 2:40 p.m. in the 100-block of Muhammad Ali Avenue. Authorities say 33-year-old Kareem Jones of Irvington was shot multiple times and later died at a hospital.

About two hours later, police found 20-year-old Jermaine Gamble in the street on the 200 block of South 8th Street. He was pronounced dead a short time later at a hospital.

A woman was also wounded in the shooting, but her injuries were not considered life-threatening. Her name and further details on her condition were not disclosed.

Motives for the shooting have not been determined.
