Two days of showers and storms, some pockets of heavy rain
New Jersey's weather will turn unsettled and wet, with showers and thunderstorms in the forecast for both Tuesday and Wednesday.
Here are your weather headlines for Tuesday, July 14, 2015...
2 Stormy Days
A warm front will traverse New Jersey on Tuesday, leading to scattered showers and thunderstorms across the state throughout the day. We have already seen a pocket of heavy rain early this morning in the southwest corner of the state. Additional rain is expected to spread northward and eastward through the day. Everyone in the state is prone to see some raindrops today, and there will likely be a few pockets of heavy rain and/or strong storms with gusty winds and small hail. The best chance for stronger storms will be for the southern half of New Jersey.
Tuesday night into Wednesday, additional periods of rain will likely impact the Garden State. Again, some embedded pockets of heavy rain and thunderstorms will be possible. By Wednesday afternoon, there's indication that the rain will become more scattered (or spread out). And by Wednesday evening, we'll start to dry out and skies will begin to clear.
Meanwhile, temperatures will remain warm and humidity will stay elevated. Highs for both Tuesday and Wednesday will approach the mid 80s, with overnight lows in the sticky 70s.
It's also worth mentioning here that Tropical Storm Claudette has formed, the third named storm of the 2015 Atlantic Hurricane season. As of 5:00 a.m., Claudette has sustained winds of 45 mph, and is about 500 miles east of the Jersey Shore moving northeast at 20 mph. No impacts are expected for New Jersey, nor for the United States. The storm should remain far enough away for us to avoid significant marine impacts like rough surf and/or rip currents.
2 Beautiful Days
As the rain is kicked out of New Jersey by Wednesday night, a cold front will deliver lower humidity, slightly cooler temperatures, and sunny skies. Frankly, Thursday looks to be a gorgeous day: morning lows may fall into the 50s, and high temperatures will end up within a few degrees of 80°.
Friday looks great too, as we hold on to high pressure for another day. Expect a few fair weather clouds and comfortable high temperatures just below normal in the lower 80s.
2 Weekend Days...
Ah, another summer weekend. And unfortunately, it won't be as picture-perfect as last weekend. Keep in mind, of course, the forecast for the weekend is still quite fluid, as Saturday is still five days away...
The current outlook shows a mixed bag weekend, with some periods of sun along with some thunderstorms. Another warm front lifting through New Jersey on Saturday will present an opportunity for showers and thunderstorms - so far, those storms look to happen Saturday afternoon. Additionally, with the front still in the neighborhood and hot, humid conditions across New Jersey, a few thunderstorms could pop-up on Sunday afternoon.
To be clear, the weekend does not appear to be a wash-out at this time. By the current forecast, not everyone will get wet, and we'll see periods of nice weather before and after the storms. Meanwhile, temperatures are expected to reach the 80s for both days (Sunday will almost certainly end up warmer than Saturday).
As the weekend gets a bit closer, we'll be able to put a finer point on the timing and impacts (showers vs. thunderstorms vs. severe weather) of any potential stormy weather.
