Two people have been arrested and charged with murdering a Newark teenager as he worked in his family's bodega.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray says 21-year-old Tyrique Spruell and an unidentified 16-year-old are in custody and charged with murder, robbery and weapons offenses.

They are charged with fatally shooting 18-year-old Jamil Bader as he worked at Jamil & Sons Family Grocery on the night of Sept. 13.

Authorities say the two wore masks as they entered the convenience store and demanded money. Bader was shot as he tried to stop the robbery.

Spruell's bail was set at $750,000. It's not known if he has an attorney.

The 16-year-old is being held at a county youth facility. His name isn't being released because he is a juvenile.
