WOODBRIDGE — A crash involving two tractor trailers created big backups on the New Jersey Turnpike on Wednesday afternoon.

State Police spokesman Alejandro Goes said the trucks hit each other around 1:45 p.m. just north of Exit 11 for the Garden State Parkway in the truck lanes.

One of the drivers had to be freed from the cab of his truck and was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for treatment of minor injuries, according to Goes, who did not disclose the identities of either driver.

Goes said the tractor trailers were the only vehicles involved.

Clean up and investigation of the crash closed the lanes for a time, creating delays starting at Exit 10 for Route 287 in Edison, as well as traffic entering the Turnpike from the Parkway. The crash also caused a rubbernecking delay in the northbound inner lanes and on the southbound lanes.

The lanes were opened up around 3:30 p.m.
