Tropicana president Tony Rodio tells The Associated Press the plan also includes a new Italian restaurant and trattoria, an expanded nightclub, and 150 new slot machines.

The casino's long-term hope is to do a similar project each year for the next four or five years until the entire property is re-done.

The renovation includes 16 floors of the casino-hotel's north tower, encompassing 437 rooms and suites.

Rodio says the casino's parent company, owned by billionaire Carl Icahn, is encouraged by new state reforms of Atlantic City, along with private investment by casino operators.

The work should be completed by the end of the year.
