A settlement has been reached against one of the defendants in a lawsuit by eight people injured in an escalator accident at Giants Stadium four years ago.

The December 2007 accident injured several people seriously, including one person who lost part of a leg.

Schindler, the company that made and maintained the escalator, says it reached a settlement in the case Monday, halfway through the first day of a trial in Superior Court in Bergen County. No settlement amount has been disclosed.

Schindler and one of the plaintiffs say the case is continuing against the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, which operated Giants Stadium.

The accident occurred after the New York Giants-New England Patriots game on Dec. 29, 2007.
