Trenton schools superintendent resigning abruptly

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- The schools superintendent in New Jersey's capital city is stepping down from his job abruptly.

Trenton Superintendent Francisco Moran announced his departure Monday in an email to staff members in the district.

He says he'll leave effective Oct. 2 but he did not explain why he's leaving, according to The Times of Trenton.

Duran has been in charge of the school district since 2012. His contract runs through June.

He was paid $192,000 for the 2014-15 school year.
