A stronger screening procedure has been put into place at New Jersey’s three largest airports.

Travelers will now be asked to remove electronics larger than cell phones from their carry-on bags at Newark Liberty, Atlantic City and Trenton-Mercer County airports, according to the TSA.

Electronics will placed in a bin with nothing on top or bottom, which will allow for a clearer view of the carry-on bag. Laptops are screened screen in much the same way now. The procedure is fully in place at Atlantic City and Trenton. It’s being put into place at Newark over the next few weeks.

Agents will be positioned to in front of the checkpoint X-ray machines to help passengers through the process and offer advice on how to best pack a carry-on to best accomodate screening.

“TSA must constantly enhance its security procedures to stay ahead of evolving threats,” TSA New Jersey Federal Security Director Thomas Carter said. “TSA is committed to raising the baseline for aviation security and we appreciate the understanding and cooperation of the traveling public,” New Jersey Federal Security Director Thomas Carter.

There are no other changes to the procedure and and passengers can continue to bring what they normally do on board. Passengers enrolled in the TSA Pre Check program are not affected.

The new procedure was announced earlier this year and will eventually be in place at all U.S. airports.
