The Transportation Security Administration says the watch was picked up Thursday by a colleague of the Japanese real estate entrepreneur who left it behind and was planning to fly to Japan later Thursday to hand deliver it.

Guards at the airport accustomed to having travelers behind sunglasses and stuffed animals found the one-of-a-kind Cartier watch on Tuesday before boarding a flight back to Japan.

It was kept under lock and key.

Officials say the owner contacted them and that they used security images on him wearing the timepiece to verify the claim.
