Transformer Fire Closes Jersey City Street

Drivers are being urged to stay away from part of the Jersey City waterfront due to a transformer fire.

Authorities say the fire, which was reported around 4 p.m. Wednesday, has forced the closure of Washington Street between Christopher Columbus Drive and York Street.

Officials say it's not yet clear what sparked the blaze, or when the fire may be brought under control.

The Jersey City Fire Department and workers from PSE&G are on the scene.
