A portion of a dump truck on Route 80 in Morris County was hanging off an NJ Transit overpass late Friday morning and early afternoon, shutting down multiple lanes of the highway and part of the Morris-Essex line.

New Jersey State Police said mid-day the portion of the truck was hanging over NJ Transit tracks in a space between the east and westbound lanes at exit No. 28 (Route 631) in Roxbury. As of 4 p.m., the left and center eastbound lanes remained closed, though the truck part had been removed.

A mini-van and dump truck collided on eastbound Route 80 at 10:08 a.m., and both vehicles rolled over, State Police said.

The dump truck’s driver, a male, was hospitalized for a head injury, State Police said. The passengers in the mini-van, a mother and her infant child, were seemingly OK but hospitalized as a precaution.

Clean up and investigation were continuing early afternoon, and State Police had no estimate on how long that would take.

NJ Transit shut down nearby stops on the Morris & Essex Line until around 2:30 p.m. as a safety precaution.

Rubbernecking on the westbound side has created a multi-mile delay in both directions. Eastbound traffic was backed up as far as Allamuchy early afternoon and westbound traffic as far as Rockaway Township. Traffic was building on nearby Route 46 as well.
