The Independence Day holiday will end as it started, with thunderstorms and drenching rain in some places.

The weekend's weather was calm after strong thunderstorms with large hail and heavy rain rolled across New Jersey on Friday afternoon, bringing down tree limbs and utility poles. More than 6 inches of rain fell in Vineland according to the National Weather Service.

There should be no issues with the parades in the morning, but it could get tricky for the fireworks displays in the evening.

"Showers and thunderstorms will begin pushing through the southwest corner of the state around 3 p.m. Monday. The rain is expected to more widespread and somewhat heavier from about 7 p.m. through Tuesday morning," said meteorologist Dan Zarrow.

The National Weather Service expects rainfall from any storm could amount from a half-inch to 2 inches, with some places getting up to 4 inches.

Zarrow said the strongest thunderstorms with wind and hail will likely stay south of New Jersey.

"Even so, pockets of moderate to heavy rain and occasional lightning are a pretty sure bet. Alas, the weather will threaten to cancel or postpone many Independence Day fireworks displays in the Garden State Monday evening."

The rest of the week looks very summer-like as temperatures head into the lower 90s by Wednesday and remain there into next weekend.
