Somerset County prosecutors say the chase started Saturday night in Bernards Township, when a police officer stopped a vehicle driven by Steven Saulter of Teaneck.

The officer asked Sauter and his two passengers to exit the vehicle after noticing an open black bag containing mechanics gloves, gold jewelry and silverware. But Saulter instead drove off on eastbound Interstate 78.

Authorities say Sauter's vehicle was traveling in excess of 100 MPH during the chase, which ended when the car hit an exit ramp divider. The three men tried to flee but were soon captured.

Burglary charges were filed against Saulter; Leon Roberts of Englewood and Marion Crowell of Teaneck. Saulter also was charged with eluding.
