Those who beat transgender student should be jailed

I found two things equally disturbing about the attack on Kylie Perez, a 14 year old transgender student at East Side High School in Newark. One was the attack itself. Clearly a hate crime. It began with someone shouting, "There's the tranny!" Suddenly she was set in on by four thugs for no reason other than she made them uncomfortable. This brutal beating was caught on video which you can watch above and read about more in depth here.

Kylie made the transition about two years ago when she no longer wanted to live as Justin. Her mother says she has thick skin. In this world, she's going to need it. The school and police have contacted the prosecutor's office and the attack is being categorized as a bias incident. Let's see if this is left at just a lame school suspension or if authorities will do the right thing and nail these idiots to a wall.

The other thing I find disturbing about this is I know many people are reading this right now and thinking it's Kylie's own fault. They're thinking she's a freak. Some are thinking the four reprobates did the right thing in assaulting her. Because in some people's twisted heads, everything they don't understand is their business. Worst of all, some among those some will actually believe in a moral imperative from God to beat a transgender person.

And that's the most disturbing thing of all.
