August 17th, 1998 – Carlos Santana receives his star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame after more then 30 years of playing and recording. It may have been his recent return into the spotlight, showcasing his guitar chops paired with vocals from several of the current pop music icons.
August 16th, 1968 – After 6 month’s of practicing, Bruce Springsteen’s new band Earth performs for the first time at the Off Broad Street Coffee House in Red Bank. The price to get in… $0.75.
August 16th, 2005 – Madonna suffers a broken collarbone, broken hand, and three cracked ribs after falling off her new horse. It’s a terrible way to celebrate her 47th birthday.
August 17th, 1955 – Elvis releases his first number 1 hit, ‘I Forgot to Remember to Forget’. It hit the top of the country charts in February of the following year, and remained for 5 weeks at the top. It would be considered the only traditional country song Elvis’ group ever released.
August 18th, 1984 – George Michael becomes the first person ever to hit No.1 as a solo artist and member of a band at the same time. It was today when his single ‘Careless Whisper’ went to No.1 in the U.K, but it was a success on both sides of the Atlantic. It reached number one in nearly 25 countries and sold close to six million copies worldwide.
August 18th, 1986 – Bon Jovi releases their third studio album, Slippery When Wet, which would hit No.1 on the charts, going on to sell over 28 million copies worldwide. The set featured two New Jersey favorites, ‘You Give Love A Bad Name’, and ‘Livin’ On A Prayer’.
