Pop singer David Bowie prepares to do some mileage with British Rail.

March 8th, 1965 David Bowie makes his television debut. It’s on a UK program called “Gadzooks! It’s All Happening” and was with The Manish Boys. They performed their single ‘I Pity The Fool.’

March 8th, 1965Bob Dylan has his first top 40 hit when his single ‘Subterranean Homesick Blues’ is released. The lead track from his Bringing It All Back Home album is best known for its innovative film clip, in what became one of the first ‘modern’ promotional film clips. The clip was shot in the alley behind a hotel in London, where Dylan held up cue cards as the music played.

March 9th, 1964The Beatles filmed the last of the train scenes for the movie A Hard Day’s Night. It took six days total and while filming aboard the moving train, they would travel a total of 2,500 miles.

March 9th, 1967Pink Floyd and The Thoughts appeared at the Marquee Club in London, England. The club is often refereed to as ‘the most important venue in the history of pop music’, not only for having been a place for the development of modern music culture, but also for being a meeting point for some of the most important artists in rock music.

March 10th, 1964Simon and Garfunkel record ‘The Sounds Of Silence’ as an acoustic duo. It wasn’t until record company producers added electric guitar, bass and drums, without their knowledge, that the song would become a hit in late 1965.

March 10th, 1979 Gloria Gaynor started a three week run at No.1 on the singles chart with ‘I Will Survive’, also a No.1 in the UK. The song was originally released as the B-side to a song first recorded by The Righteous Brothers called ‘Substitute.’
