April 30th, 1976Keith Moon, drummer of The Who pays nine cab drivers to block-off a street in NYC so he could throw the contents of his hotel room out of the window.

May 1st, 1967Beach Boy, Carl Wilson is arrested by the F.B.I. on charges of avoiding the military draft and refusing to take an oath of allegiance. He would later be released and would join the rest of the band in Ireland for a British tour.

May 2nd, 1972Bruce Springsteen auditions for CBS Records in New York. Springsteen played a short set in the office of A&R representative John Hammond. Hammond was so impressed that he set up a further audition for that night at the Gaslight Club in New York for other Columbia executives. It went well and Bruce was signed.

May 3rd, 1976Paul McCartney is in Fort Worth, Texas to kick off a 31 date ‘Wings Over America’ tour.  It is his first concert appearance in America in almost ten years.

May 4th, 1970 – Four students at Kent University were killed and eleven wounded by National Guard troops at a campus demonstration protesting the escalation of the Vietnam War. Many credit this event as prompting Buffalo Springfield to write the hit song ‘For What It’s Worth.” However the Kent State incident had happened 3 years after Buffalo Springfield released their hit in 1967.

May 5th, 1979Peaches and Herb started a four week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘Reunited’. What many don’t know is that Herb (Herb Fame) has remained a constant in “Peaches & Herb” since its creation in 1966, while six consecutive women have filled the role of “Peaches.”

May 6th, 1973Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel kick off their first tour. It is recorded and later released as ‘Live Rhymin’. The album presents a shortened version of the concerts he performed on this tour, which many consisted of up to 24 songs
