BRANCHBURG — Investigators want to know where Ashley Castro was in the days before her body was found in the middle of Route 22.

The 29-year-old Hopatcong mother was identified by the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office as the woman whose body was found Wednesday afternoon in the grassy median of the highway.

The Somerset County Prosecutor's Office said the cause and manner of death has not yet been determined.

Her body was found early Wednesday afternoon near the Route 28 intersection, on a stretch of Route 22 that has several retail businesses, a ShopRite and a Marriott Residence Inn.

A month before her death, relatives posted on her Facebook page asking why she had left a rehab facility, leaving her toddler daughter in her family's care. Castro responded to their comments by saying she would call them.

Her last public post on the social media site was March 27, when she shared this image from the Battling Our Inner Demons group.

Although officials gave Castro's address as Hopatcong, her Facebook page claims she was living in Whitehouse, a section of Readington about 2 miles from where her body was found.

Prosecutors said detectives are investigating Castro's recent whereabouts and asked for anyone who came in contact with her recently to call the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit at 908-231-7100.
