It's almost Christmas. We spend so much time running around preparing for the holidays that it's easy to forget those among us that have no one to celebrate the holiday, share meals, exchange gifts...all the things that make the holiday an event worth the wait.

Our friends at the Monmouth County SPCA have a special request this season: think about our canine friends. Dogs are often referred to as "man's best friend." What about the dog who sits alone in a crate watching as dog after dog becomes a pet for a loving family?

The dog pictured above is a five year old Terrier mix named Alize. Our friend Lisa from the Monmouth County SPCA says Alize "loves to snuggle on the couch and be with her human friends" and "is great at giving hugs and kisses!"

This dog has been at the kennel for nearly three years for the time when a little boy or girl would walk by his crate and say, "mom, can we take her home?!?" It hasn't happened yet, but maybe after you look at these pictures and think about how important a loyal dog can be to a family, maybe, just maybe you'll consider helping this dog stop the streak of lonely Christmases at three.

How to adopt:

The Monmouth County SPCA asks would-be pet parents to visit the Homeward Bound Adoption Center in Eatontown or the Adoption Center at the Freehold Raceway Mall to meet its pets. It only conducts adoptions in person, and asks that you please bring all family members. To receive more information, call the adoption Line: 732-542-5962.
