1966 - The Beach Boys host their 'Summer Spectacular' at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. Acts include, The Beach Boys, Jefferson Airplane, Lovin' Spoonful, Percy Sledge, the Byrds, and the Sir Douglas Quintet.

1981Lionel Richie and Diana Ross release their famous ballad "Endless Love." The song was recorded for Motown, and it was used as the theme for the film 'Endless Love' starring Brooke Shields.

1992Billy Joel receives his high school diploma from Long Island's Hicksville High 25 years after leaving the high school. The piano man had never graduated because of one missing English credit which made him not eligible for the graduation. Instead of taking the summer class to make up the one credit, he just began his music career without a diploma.

1999 - Eric Clapton raises nearly $5 million by putting 100 of his guitars up for auction at Christie's in New York City. The event was to benefit his drug rehab clinic, the Crossroads Centre in Antigua. His 1956 Fender Strat, named Brownie, sold for a whopping $497,500 and was the guitar Clapton used to record the electric version of 'Layla'.
