Did you ever know anyone to have an “accident” in school?

It’s a fairly commonplace occurrence - especially if a kid is embarrassed to ask for permission to use the bathroom – or for whatever reason just doesn’t want to get out of the seat.

I must have peed my pants once or twice, and remember how my father handled it – in his own inimitable way.

He’d put up a graph in the foyer closet with a couple of boxes: one for me, one for my brother, and one for my sister. And he’d make lists saying “Pee-pee in the bed” and Pee-pee in the pants” with checkmarks under each one if we peed ourselves.

Not quite “Robert Young” –esque in “Father Knows Best” – but we kind of got the message.

Anyway, imagine what kids are going through in this one school, where they’re given Monopoly money and told they could use it on either paying for treats or pay to go to the bathroom.

Yes, I know, kids will use any excuse to get out of class to go to the bathroom, but in a good many cases, when you gotta go, you gotta go.

And it’s just plain wrong to have to pay to pee!

Since this story broke, the school district has decided to investigate the issue. The teacher has been removed from the classroom for the duration of the investigation.

Gee, ya think?

I get the whole idea of prioritizing how to use your money, but to use it to “buy” a bathroom break – is just plain wrong.

Maybe some teachers need to take a course in common sense – assuming they’re available.
