As expected, politics are in play over the state budget process between Gov. Chris Christie and Democrats.

The Legislature sent Christie a signed budget on Thursday, which includes tax hikes on the wealthy and businesses. Christie has promised to veto any such provisions.

Democrats will claim they were trying to help the poor and middle-class, while Christie will be regarded as a hero by national conservatives for keeping his no tax hike pledge.

Vetoing another tax hike will surely be an issue that the governor trumpets, should he decide to make a 2016 White House bid.

A new budget must be signed into law by Tuesday.
