In one instance, there’s the story of a Bed & Breakfast in Edgewater Park who put on Facebook: ‘God invented AIDS to punish gays’!

The owner of a New Jersey Bed & Breakfast on Monday posted an anti-gay rant on Facebook asserting that “God invented AIDS” to punish gays after a local woman complained about an anti-gay statement on the marquee outside their inn.

The sign, posted outside the Whitebriar Bed & Breakfast in Edgewater Park, N.J., indicated the Inn’s support of a planned, nationwide “Chick-fil-A” day by anti-marriage equality patrons, followed by the message, “Marriage, One Man, One Woman, One God.”

The sign caught the attention of neighbor Joianne Fraschilla, an out lesbian, who posted this message on Facebook: “This is somewhere my son loves to pass by and we have been excited to visit. Not anymore. I’m sad to see a local business anti LGBT marriage.”

In response came this reply, presumably from the Inn’s owner, Carole Lokan-Moore:

Isn’t it wonderful Joanne Fraschilla, that you and your son can enjoy the animals here because I have a traditional marriage with a husband who works with me 90 hours a week to take care of these animals, and the summer camp….we’re 66-68 years old….there were no gays or queers in our time…..if two old ladies chose to live together..so be it, let them deal with God when they get there…but to have the “face sucking” thrown in my face of two gay lesbians who are totally destroying the “normal balance in a child’s life” as you claim your son…where is the role model that your son needs to know how to act like a man? or will he only see the “one sided selfishness” of a “single parent”…and end up an out cast in society by being “gay” himself because he didn’t have a father as a role model. I’ll pray for you….remember what the bible says: “Lay down with dogs, get up with fleas”…..guess that’s why God invented aids…. THIS LOCAL BUSINESS WILL BE ONE MAN ONE WOMAN ONE GOD MAKES MARRIAGE….AND PROUD TO DO SO….YOU SHOULD BE SO LUCKY TO OWN YOUR OWN BUSINESS.

Undeterred, Fraschilla has now started a Change.org petition hoping to force the Whitebriar B&B owners to apologize saying, “I believe that everyone has the right to their own opinion, but to demonize [LGBT people] with hurtful words in a public forum is inhumane.”

Hateful you say?

Depends on what side you're on.....intolerant or brutally honest!

Now, besides the planned clash over the opening of the Chick-fil-A franchise at Richard Stockton College of New Jersey comes this:

Christine Quinn, the New York City Council speaker, and possible mayoral candidate next year is joining New York University students in calling for Chick-fil-A to be removed from the school's Manhattan campus.

Quinn, who’s an out lesbian, wrote a letter to NYU President John Sexton on July 28, calling for the university to take action against Chick-fil-A after recent controversial comments against LGBT rights were made by company president Dan Cathy.

Chick-fil-A has spent millions through its charitable arm WinShape to support anti-gay organizations. But Cathy added fuel to the fire in July when he said in an interview "I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, 'We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage.' And I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to try to redefine what marriage is about."

Recently, mayors in major cities like Boston, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. have spoken out against Chick-fil-A, attempting to keep the company from locating in their municipalities.

Law professors have pointed out that denying them the right to build within their city violates their First Amendment right, but Quinn's request is different. NYU is a private university with a huge population of gay students. It might be easier (and legal) for them to get out of their contract, or simply not renew it once their current deal is up, than a government body not allowing them to build.

Quinn also asked Sexton to be sure if Chick-fil-A closes that NYU find a place for the employees of the fast food chicken joint.

"The employees of the Chick-fil‐A should not suffer because of the shortsightedness and homophobia of the President of the corporation that employs them," Quinn said.

Personally I think it’s a draw.

One side either espouses their own interpretation of religion; which is protected speech; while the other demands they shut up or suffer the consequences at the cash register.

In the Chick fil A debate, which side is the more intolerant?
The anti-same sex marriage faction.
The pro same sex marriage faction.
