Driver, 18, comes forward in hit-and-run of South Jersey Temple student
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Police say an 18-year-old driving with a learner's permit has come forward and confessed to striking a Temple University student as she rode a mountain bike near the North Philadelphia campus.
The hit-and-run crash around 7 p.m. Wednesday critically injured 22-year-old Rachel Hall. She was unconscious with severe head trauma and a leg fracture when police and paramedics arrived.
Police say the driver told them he fled out of fear. They say he was driving a Mitsubishi Gallant he borrowed from his father. Police recovered the silver sedan hours after the crash.
Police say the driver and his father are cooperating.
Hall is a senior criminal justice major from Mullica Hill, New Jersey. She played goalkeeper on the university's women's lacrosse team and is scheduled to graduate May 8.
