JERSEY CITY — Two teens were shot early Sunday morning as they walked past a preschool.

A 13-year-old boy was shot in the back, and a 15-year-old in the ankle around 3 a.m. along Ocean Avenue near Wegman Avenue in Jersey City according to city spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill.

She said both teens were taken to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment and state Youth and Family Services was contacted.

Several rounds of gunfire were heard by police who found the boys on the ground, according to RLS Media, which reported there have been four people injured in the city by gunfire since Friday.

New Jersey State PBA president Patrick Colligan noted in a tweet it was a violent night across the state with four shot in Newark, two in Paterson and one in Hackensack. "Just an extraordinarily busy night for New Jersey law enforcement. Sometimes folks forget as they sleep violence continues and we remain on duty to answer the calls," Colligan told New Jersey 101.5
