PERTH AMBOY — Police are investigating the death of an 18-year-old man found stabbed to death on a city street last week.

The man, identified as Jose David Guardado-Leiva, was found by a person walking in the area of the Conrail Property near William Street, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey.

Carey said Leiva was pronounced dead at the scene on the morning of Aug. 25 after authorities receiving a 911 call from the passerby. The Middlesex County Medical Examiner said the cause of death was "homicide due to sharp force injuries of the head, neck and torso."

The prosecutor encouraged anyone with information about the incident to call Detective Dennis Marte of the Perth Amboy Police Department at 732-442-4400 or Detective Michael Connelly of the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office at 732-745-4340.
