FRANKLIN (Somerset) — An 81-year-old woman who was hit by a car crossing a local road on Sunday morning died at a hospital a short time later, according to the local police department.

The Franklin Township Police Department reported getting several phone calls about a pedestrian being struck on Ten Mile Run Boulevard and found Franklin Park resident Ernestine Register "unconscious and not breathing" in the roadway. She was taken by first responders from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and the Kendall Park First Aid Squad to a local hospital where police say she later died.

The police said it was determined Register was hit by a 2007 Volvo S40 driven by 19-year-old Kylie Fisher, also of Franklin Park.

The crash was investigated by the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Team and the Franklin Township Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau.

According to the police, the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact Cpl. Michael Deutchman at 732-873-5533 ext. 3110.
