HACKENSACK — A high school teacher fired over allegations he had sex with a 16-year-old student has been sentenced to four years in prison.

The Bergen Record reported that Donald DeWitt, 55, a science and biology teacher at Bergen County Academies, pleaded guilty to second-degree child endangerment as part of a deal with prosecutors.

Dewitt was one of the founders of the Hackensack magnet school in 1991, according to and also photographed many student events, according to the newspaper. He must also register as a sex offender under Megan's Law.

The newspaper reported DeWitt was fired in February after pleading guilty to the charges.
