The State Treasurer has refused to testify before the Assembly Budget Committee four times in the recent past. The panel’s chairman is fed up and tomorrow, his committee will consider legislation granting the panel subpoena power to force the Treasurer to testify.

Assembly Budget Committee chairman, Vinnie Prieto invited State Treasurer Andrew Sidamon-Eristoff to testify before his committee today to let the members get a clue about the expected impact of the Federal Super-Storm Sandy Relief Package. Sidamon-Eristoff was a no-show and because this isn’t the first time he’s snubbed Prieto and the panel, the chairman thinks it’s time his committee had subpoena power.

Tomorrow was supposed to be Vinnie Prieto’s first hearing as Assembly Budget Committee chairman. He wanted two of Governor Chris Christie’s cabinet chiefs to update the panel on the Administration’s Medicaid revision plan which is supposed to save $300 million in the current budget. Both cabinet chief wrote a letter in response to Prieto’s invitation. They essentially said, “Thanks, but no thanks.”
