The discovery of the weapon inside Union Catholic High School in Scotch Plains sent the school into lockdown along with all schools in the Scotch Plains-Fanwood and Westfield school districts for about two hours.
Fanwood police on their Facebook page said "police activity" at Union Catholic High School on Martine Avenue in Scotch Plains led all school in both towns to be placed on lockdown around 12:15 p.m.
The use of locking pouches to hold students' cell phones during school hours has been upsetting to some. The pouches were already rolled out pre-pandemic in other NJ schools.
