Tourists seek paradise as Hawaii area struggles after storm

HONOLULU (AP) -- His generator whirring at top speed, Gene Lamkin used rain captured from Tropical Storm Iselle to wash his hair as he and thousands of others in a rural swath of the Big Island remained in the dark and unable to traverse roads blocked by toppled trees. It was a far cry from the way tourists in popular parts of Hawaii spent their Saturday - sunbathing, kayaking and otherwise back to paradise despite an overcast sky.

July 4th? Arthur moves celebrations to 3rd or 5th

NEW YORK (AP) -- As Americans prepared to celebrate the nation's 238th birthday, Hurricane Arthur forced several East Coast cities to switch the dates of their Fourth of July shows and officials in the drought-stricken West urged caution in setting off fireworks.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Along much of the East Coast, hotel owners, tourism officials and would-be vacationers kept a watchful eye on forecasts Wednesday as Tropical Storm Arthur churned off Florida, threatening Fourth of July plans for thousands of people.

Tracking Tropical Storm Arthur to July 4th

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) -- A hurricane watch covering nearly 200 miles along North Carolina's coast was issued early Wednesday, threatening Fourth of July plans as Tropical Storm Arthur moved northward from Florida.

Tropical Storm Arthur strengthens off Florida

MIAMI (AP) -- With the July Fourth weekend on the horizon, the Atlantic hurricane season's first named storm gradually gained strength off Florida's coast on Tuesday, though Arthur wasn't yet spooking too many in the storm's potential path.
