NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- Casinos and racetracks in New Jersey will have to wait a bit longer for a judge's ruling on the state's efforts to allow legal sports gambling.
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- Four major professional sports leagues and the NCAA filed a court challenge to the state's latest attempt to offer legal sports gambling on Monday, calling the effort "astounding," "specious" and a "blatant violation" of an earlier court order.
On Monday, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie issued a directive telling Garden State casinos and racetracks that sports betting will no longer be considered illegal, and operations could be set up if desired. So far, however, only Monmouth Park has indicated it has any interest in the practice.

The problem is how to do it – even though the means may be in defiance of federal law prohibiting one or the other.
So far the state’s been unsuccessful in undoing the ban on legalized sports betting here – a move which would prop up the gaming industry – which as of now seems to be on life support...
