Gov. Phil Murphy signed four new gun laws, adding to what the Giffords Law Center already ranks as the second-strongest set of laws among the 50 states.
Gov. Chris Christie vetoed a pair of gun-related bills Tuesday, one that proposed changing New Jersey's strict requirement that firearm dealers eventually sell only so-called "smart guns" and another measure that would have barred carjackers and other convicts from owning a gun.
The Garden State statute makes it illegal to sell any other guns once smart guns are available for purchase. Democratic State Senate leaders and gun safety activists held a press conference at the State House Thursday to announce a push to repeal the law that was enacted in 2002.
