The New Jersey Department of Agriculture will be on the boardwalks in Atlantic City, Wildwood, and Seaside Heights today, handing out free Jersey Fresh tomatoes to beachgoers.
The Jersey Fresh produce season has officially kicked off in the Garden State, with locally grown greens like asparagus and spinach available right now.
Officials say this is the time when the adults, who will not survive the winter, lay large egg masses that will hatch 30 to 50 nymphs each in the spring.
"We are targeting areas where severe infestations have been confirmed, and we also encourage residents to destroy the Spotted Lanternfly if possible when they see it," said New Jersey Department of Agriculture Secretary Douglas Fisher.
Farm stands and open-air markets seem like the perfect places to shop in a socially distant fashion this summer, all while supporting New Jersey businesses.
