When Mikey Nichols was paralyzed playing hockey for Monroe High school on Jan 4, 2014, he vowed that he would never be held back by his wheelchair, nor would he let it define who he is. Who Mikey Nichols is, is a fighter and he's won another battle by moving up in wheelchair to one that he can partially manually control.

Nichols has been paralyzed since 2014, and his former teacher Joe Rooney pushed him across the finish line of the New York City Marathon.

NJ's own Mike Nichols and Joe Rooney are taking on 26.2 miles, together, to raise funds and awareness for spinal cord injuries.

A Central New Jersey high school hockey player who was paralyzed after suffering a devastating spinal cord injury during a game last winter is finally back home, after spending five months in intensive care and a rehab clinic.

Hundreds of people packed the Monroe Township Performing Arts Center last Saturday night and raised over $7800 at a comedy fundraiser for Mike Nichols, the high school hockey player who fractured his spine after being checked into the boards in a game on January 4th.
