1958 - Elvis Presley gives one last press conference in Brooklyn at the Military Ocean Terminal, with special permission from the Army. He then joined the rest of the 3rd Armored Division on the USS General Randall for a voyage to Bremerhaven, Germany.

1968 - Cream started a four-week run at No.1 on the US album chart with 'Wheels Of Fire'. It would become the first platinum-selling double album and receive a spot on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time in 2003.

1972 - Bruce Springsteen begins assembling the E Street Band after being signed to Columbia Records.   Various Asbury Park  ex-band members soon join
