The fire broke out around 4:30 p.m. Friday at the base of the bridge connecting Philadelphia and south Jersey under one of its concrete support piers.

Pat Reilly, from the Burlington County Bridge Commission public safety director Patrick Reilly says the fire was a “freak accident.”

He said the wooden bulkheads on the pier below one of the bridge’s towers apparently caught fire from a spark from an electrical line.

No injuries were reported.
