As you probably know, my family recently adopted a new dog, Luna. Luna is a very good dog and has quickly become a treasured member of our household.

Unbeknownst to me, my 19 year old daughter’s boyfriend bought Luna a Halloween sweater. Now, the dog has hair and fur and certainly doesn’t need another layer of protection. She also, to the best of my knowledge, doesn’t celebrated Halloween, so there is no practical, or impractical, reason for the dog to ever need a sweater.

The only reason to put one on is for the amusement of humans. What’s fun about a Halloween sweater on a dog? Look at the picture of Luna. She looks embarrassed and defeated. The spark of life that makes her special has been snuffed out by the silly sweater. She seems resigned to looking foolish for no good reason.

One more thing, costumes don’t belong on dogs, either. They DON’T CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN! Again, it’s just for the amusement of their owners. Stop crushing your dog’s self esteem by making them wear clothes. They don’t want to do it.
