SOUTH BRUNSWICK — A driver that hit the gas instead of the brake wound up hitting another car and the railing outside a library on Saturday.

Sunitha Maganti,47 of Monmouth Junction said she mixed up the pedals of her 2013 Acura MDX as she puled up to the library around 10:15 a.m., according to South Brunswick Police. Maganti's car then hopped the curb, hit a parked car, drove 50 feet down the sidewalk hitting the railings outside library before it hit a concrete wall at the library's main entrance.

"When the library first opens, there is typically a lot of people near the entrance. We are just lucky in this instance that no one was injured,” South Brunswick Chief Raymond Hayducka said. No pedestrians were hit.

Maganti was issued a summons for careless driving, according to Hayducka.

Police said the crash caused over $3,000 worth of damage to the library building but caused no structural damage.
