Authorities say a suspicious device with the mayor's name written on it that was found in an elevator inside Lawnside's town hall turned out to be a fake.

The Camden County Prosecutor's Office says a pair of flares were taped to two pipes and screws were placed in a bag with Mayor Mary Ann Wardlow's name written on it.

A robot used by the county bomb squad disabled the device Thursday. Officials say the flares could not have been ignited.

The mayor had left town hall on Wednesday night and the device was not in the elevator at the time.

Officials are trying to determine who placed it.
