Suspect in Marine Death Turns Himself In
A Camden man has been arrested and charged with the murder of a Marine who was slain while trying to break up a fight.
Police say 31-year-old Darrell Crone turned himself in Wednesday morning.
The Camden County Prosecutor's Office says Crone shot Timothy Loper Jr. early Sunday when the 27-year-old Marine was trying to break up a fight outside a bar.
"Everything we have indicates that Mr. Loper was not involved in this," Jason Loughlin of the Camden County Prosecutor's Office told 6 ABC, who added the fight was over a woman.
“This young man had bravely served his country and deserved much better than being killed in such a senseless act of violence,” Camden County Police Chief Thomson said of Lopez's death.
Loper was married with a 6-year-old daughter.
Crone is being held in jail and is expected to make a court appearance Thursday. Loper's death is the 51st homicide in Camden this year.
