Suspect in beating death of NJ father surrenders to police

PAULSBORO — After several weeks of being on the run, a 31-year-old Paulsboro man surrendered to police Tuesday in connection with the March 29 beating death of 36-year-old father of two, authorities said.

Kevin M. Mosley, accompanied by his attorney, turned himself in to New Jersey State Police at the Woodstown barracks. His arrest came one day after the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office announced that charges were being filed against him for the death of Paulsboro resident John Scott. Prior to his surrender, police were still trying to determine Mosley's whereabouts and had released his picture to the media in an effort to track him down, the prosecutor's office said.

According to police, Mosley was wanted on charges stemming from an assault that caused the death of Scott following a confrontation outside the Pine Street home that the victim shared with his wife and two children.

On Aug. 11, the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office signed a complaint against Mosley, charging him with murder, “specifically, by punching Scott in the face, causing Scott to fall onto the roadway, causing injuries which resulted in Scott’s death, and punching Scott once more while Scott lay defenseless in the roadway,”  the complaint states.

Police say Scott was found unconscious outside his home after leaving the house to purchase cigarettes at a local convenience store. The victim was transported to Cooper University Medical Center in Camden, where he succumbed to his injuries on April 1.  The prosecutor said an autopsy determined that the cause of Scott's death was a head injury.

“Mr. Mosley has been on the run for a few weeks, while  GCPO fugitive officers were looking for him,”  Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean F. Dalton said in a statement Wednesday. “Thankfully, he is in custody now and it happened safely.”

Authorities say Mosley was to be sent to Salem County Jail in default of $750,000 bail.
