The number of New Jersey homes and businesses without power has plummeted over the past 24 hours. It's a far cry from the 100,000 outages reported early Saturday.

The state's major utilities late Sunday afternoon reported about 8,500 customers still in the dark as a result of the massive winter storm.

Atlantic City Electric cited 7,383 customers without power. A utility spokesman said power restoration is expected by the end of Sunday for most customers.

PSE&G had 74 customers offline.

JCP&L reported 1,104 affected customers at 4:16 p.m. and expects all customers to be back online by 9 p.m. Sunday.
