Sued Sandy Charity Being “Singled Out,” Lawyer Says

The lawyer for a purported Superstorm Sandy charity that New Jersey authorities have barred from soliciting additional donations says it's wrongly being subjected to "extreme" regulatory enforcement.

Robert Levy, who represents the Hurricane Sandy Relief Foundation, tells the Asbury Park Press that officials "jumped to conclusions" about the intentions of the group's founders, Sparta residents John Sandberg and Christina Terraccino.

Levy says the foundation and the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund, the charitable organization chaired by first lady Mary Pat Christie, have both distributed just a portion of the donations they've raised.

But in a court brief filed this week, Levy said his client's organization is being singled out for "technical deficiencies" its operators are working to correct.

Cam Henderson, executive director of the fund led by Mary Pat Christie, declined comment.
