Mario Flores, 33, has been accused by authorities of fatally shooting 35-year-old Roxanne Flores at their home, then driving to Virginia, the Camden County Prosecutor said in a press release Saturday.

Authorities say police were called to Mario and Roxanne Flores' Wright Avenue home at 1:32 a.m. Saturday morning to check on the couple. When police arrived they searched the home and eventually found Roxanne's body in the bedroom, dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

During the course of an investigation, witnesses told police that the couple had been having marital problems, "and allegedly had an argument in which a handgun was involved," the Prosecutor's Office said in a statement.

According to police, an officer who was on patrol in the neighborhood had seen Mario's blue Nissan leave the home at 12:50 a.m., less than an hour before they discovered Roxanne's body. Family members later told investigators that the suspect had dropped off his daughter in Lindenwold at a relative's home around 1 a.m.

Police later learned that Mario Flores had fled the area and was near Alexandria, Virginia. Police in that area observed his vehicle and detained him. Authorities say he is being held in Virginia on first degree murder charges, but will be transferred back to New Jersey.
