This Saturday night I will be hosting a fundraiser for the New Jersey 911 Memorial Foundation. The purpose is to raise money for the upkeep of the Memorial at Liberty State park to protect and preserve this lasting monument.

This memorial pays tribute and honor to the 749 NJ residents who perished from the Sept 11th attacks on our great nation. Empty Sky opened was dedicated in 2011.

The NJ 9/11 Memorial Foundation, formed in 2008, is the non-profit 501 C3 organization made up of volunteer NJ 9/11 Family members and survivors. Their fundraising efforts assist the State to provide for the endowment and maintenance of the Empty Sky Memorial and its surrounding landscaped grounds.

Unfortunately, Empty Sky had sustained damage from the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy to its lighting and irrigation systems, rust on the panels and loss of many cherry trees. While the state is working on repairing the lighting and irrigation systems, the fundraising efforts will help Empty Sky and its surrounding landscaped grounds to receive the other maintenance it needs.

It’s hard to believe it’s been 15 years since the tragic events of Sept 11 but for the victim’s families, they feel it everyday like it was yesterday. This monument provides some comfort as well as hope.

The fundraiser takes place this Saturday October 24 from 7-11 at the Beacon Hill Country Club in Atlantic Highlands. Entertainment will be provided by Eddie Testa and his Band and the cost is $60. For more info and reservations go to info@nj911memorial.org
