Steady snowfall today leads to icy roads and low visibility

An Alberta Clipper type system is pushing through New Jersey today, and looks to bring widespread accumulating snow to New Jersey.

To be clear, this is not a particularly strong winter storm, and the atmosphere doesn't have much moisture to work with. Regardless, light to moderate snow will drop visibilities below a mile at times, and will make for slippery road conditions through the evening commute. Widespread accumulations of 1 to 2 inches of fluffy, powdery snow are expected, particularly in South Jersey.

The first snowflakes began in the southwest corner of the state at about 5am this morning, and spread quickly through the rest of the state. According to the National Weather Service in Mt. Holly, the top snow totals in the state as of 11am were reports of 0.8" in Vineland (Cumberland County) and Williamstown (Gloucester County).

The snow is expected to become significantly lighter this afternoon, and eventually stop early this evening. A Winter Weather Advisory continues until 4pm for Ocean, Burlington, Atlantic, Camden, Gloucester, Salem, Cumberland, and Cape May counties.

Meanwhile, cold temperatures will ensure that any snow that falls will be here for a while. Daily high temperatures will remain in the 20s through at least the end of the workweek.
