State may waive rules for advertising snow-shoveling service

TRENTON (AP) — New Jersey residents who advertise their snow-shoveling services within 24 hours of a predicted snowstorm could operate free from municipal regulations under a bill being considered in the Legislature.

The Assembly's State and Local Government Committee is due to consider the measure Thursday.

Lawmakers say the bill was inspired by two Bound Brook teens who passed out fliers to homeowners before a storm in January but were warned by police they might have broken the law.

At the time, police said they were not concerned the teens were operating without a license but that it wouldn't be safe to if they were out during a state of emergency.
