The Republican governor announced Monday night that Labor and Workforce Development Commissioner Harold Wirths will step down next month. Christie says he will nominate Wirths to serve on the state parole board.

Wirths, a Republican who lives in Hardyston Township, has served in Christie's cabinet since 2010.

Christie praised Wirth's leadership skills, noting that he helped put in place anti-fraud measures that saved the state hundreds of millions of dollars.
